A Shared Sunset

In January, we took a mid-winter vitamin D trip to the Canary Islands in Spain. It was an incredible trip filled with rest and joy.

One of my favorite moments, though, was also one of the simplest and most unplanned.

We spent the day in Puerto de Mogán, affectionately nicknamed Little Venice. I made a point of wanting to watch the sunset there by the water. We originally planned to see it during dinner, but after swimming in a beautiful ocean alcove and climbing around the large boulders nearby, we were hungry earlier than expected.

Later, we decided to walk toward another restaurant with a rooftop view. On the way, a tall wall blocked the ocean, and the sun had already begun to lower. I noticed people walking around the wall, so we followed, curious about what might be there.

It was stunning.

A cliffside opened up with a breathtaking view of the sun setting over the water. We climbed down a bit and found a comfortable rock to sit on and watch. And still, that wasn’t the best part.

As the sun moved slowly toward the horizon, I turned around and saw dozens of people gathering behind us, drawn to the same view. Strangers, quietly sharing the same moment.

There was something deeply grounding about it. A shared pause. A reminder that some things call us together without needing words.
